Simultaneous measurement of blood-flow velocity and regional wall motion with phase unwrapping

چکیده
Background Doppler echocardiography-based techniques are routinely used to assess the heart and ventricular function by measuring blood flow and cardiac tissue velocity profiles. While these measures may similarly be obtained by phase contrast MRI, each require separate acquisitions and subsequent analysis to accommodate for vastly different velocities and therefore velocity encoding (VENC) values.

PULSATILE MOTION OF BLOOD IN A CIRCULAR TUBE OF VARYING CROSS-SECTION WITH SLIP FLOW
Pulsatile motion of blood in a circular tube of varying cross-section has been developed by considering slip flow at the tube wall and the blood to be a non- Newtonian biviscous incompressible fluid. The tube wall is supposed to be permeable and the fluid exchange across the wall is accounted for by prescribing the normal velocity of the fluid at the tube wall. The tangential velocity of the fl...
متن کاملSimultaneous wall and blood-flow phase-contrast imaging using a single low VENC
Background Intra-ventricular blood flow and regional myocardial motion are two key components used in assessing cardiac function. Both can be quantified using phase contrast MRI, but typically require two imaging sequences to be acquired one with a high velocity encoding value (VENC) and one with a low VENC, selected to optimize velocity sensitivity while avoiding aliasing. In an effort to obta...
متن کاملSimultaneous measurement of water flow velocity with fluorescent and speckle imaging technique
The average velocity of water flow has been simultaneously measured with fluorescent and speckle imaging methods. The measured velocities with two methods are in good agreement with each other and it confirms that the speckle imaging method can be used as a confident method to measure the velocity of water flow in a dry leaf. Also the velocity of water flow through thick and thin xylems of a le...
متن کاملPresentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
متن کاملImaging of wall motion coupled with blood flow velocity in the heart and vessels in vivo: a feasibility study.
The mechanical property and geometry changes as a result of cardiovascular disease affect both the wall motion and blood flow in the heart and vessels, whereas the latter two are also coupled and therefore continuously influence one another. Simultaneous and registered imaging of both cardiovascular wall motion and blood velocity may thus contribute to more complete computational models of card...
